What is CSS?
HTML says what is on the page. CSS decides how it looks: colours, spacing, fonts and layout.
CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Where HTML says what things are, CSS describes how they look: which colour a heading has, how much space sits around a paragraph, where a menu goes on the screen.
Keeping the two apart is the whole point. The same HTML can look completely different with another stylesheet, and one stylesheet can give a hundred pages the same look. Change one line of CSS, and every page follows.
h1 {
color: darkred;
}- HTML → what things are
- CSS → how they look and where they sit
- One stylesheet can style every page of a site
