Anatomy of an element
Every element is forged in three parts. Let's take one apart on the anvil.
<h1>opening tag
Hello, forgecontent
</h1>closing tag
Most HTML comes in pairs. An opening tag starts the element, a closing tag ends it, and the content sits in between. All three together make one element.
The closing tag repeats the tag name with a slash / in front. That slash is how the browser knows the element is finished.
- People often say “tag” when they mean “element”. Strictly,
<h1>is a tag;<h1>Hello, forge</h1>is the element.
