A page is just text
Welcome to the forge, smith! Every page on the web starts as plain text. Let's see what's in it.
Open any web page and look behind it, and you find a text file. Besides the words you read, it holds little marks called tags. They tell the browser what each piece of text is.
The browser reads those marks and turns them into a page: a big heading here, a paragraph there. The tags themselves never show up on screen.
<h1>Brunn's Forge</h1> <p>Hot iron, sharp code.</p>
<h1>marks the main heading: the browser shows it big and bold.<p>marks a paragraph of normal text.- That marking-up is where the name comes from: HTML is a markup language.
