What is JavaScript?
HTML is the iron, CSS the polish, and JavaScript makes it move: clicks, changes, live updates. Let's write some!
JavaScript (JS) is the programming language of the web. It reacts to clicks, updates the page, talks to servers and much more.
Brendan Eich created it at Netscape in 1995: in about ten days. Today it runs in every browser, and on servers too, with Node.js.
- JavaScript is not Java: the names are similar, the languages aren't.
- Its official standard is called ECMAScript; new versions come out every year.
- The browser runs your JS directly: no separate build step needed to start.
